eastern cypress katydid
Inscudderia walkeri
Dots show county records; shaded area shows likely general distribution.
Computer-generated distribution map, produced in 2003 from records in a database available on this site.
The dashed line shows the northern and western limits of baldcypress
(Taxodium distichum). The predicted limits of I. walkeri
are made to coincide with the limits of the pondcypress variety of
baldcypress (Taxodium ascendens.)
Pondcypress is characteristic of still-water swamps,
whereas baldcypress is characteristic of flowing-water swamps. Both
baldcypress and pondcypress occur throughout the range of pondcypress.
Some consider the two to be varieties of a single species.
