of the stridualatory structures). During each of the phonatome sequences above, the phonatomes increase in intensity and duration. In katydids of this
subfamily,
each phonatome generally consists of a softer sound, made as the forewings are moved laterally (opened) followed by a louder sound,
made as
the forewings are moved medially (closed).
