When David Funk collected this juvenile, the buds of the hindwings of this individual were unusually well developed (as seen here). In another female last-instar juvenile, captured at the same site, the buds of the hindwings were narrower and scarcely extended farther rearward than the buds of the forewings. Contrary to expectations, the female with the larger hindwing buds did not develop into a macropterous adult (one with hindwings longer than the forewings [example, in another species]).
