Song: Weissman and Gray (2019) described the song as a slow chirp, chirp rate usually <90, 4-7 pulses per chirp. Pulse rate 20-35.
Identification: A key to the adult males of native US Gryllus is in Weissman and Gray (2019).

Habitat: Sandy substrate in open, low rolling coastal dunes.
Life cycle: No egg diapause. Probably one generation per year.
Season: Nymphs molted to adults in August.
Name derivation: Greek: "thinos" = "beach, shore, or strand", in recognition of where G. thinos occurs.
